Burns Night celebrates the poetry and life of Scottish poet Robert Burns on his birthday. On Burns Night every year traditional Burns Supper's are held. At a burns supper there is usually haggis, Scottish music, scotch whiskey and Robert Burns poetry will be recited. The first ever burns supper was held by the poet's friends on the 5th anniversary of his death on 21st July 1801. The celebrations became a national celebration  when the Burns Club took over the organisation of the event and were then celebrated on his birthday and have been celebrated on the 25th January ever since.

What to do this Burns Night

There are a lot of great ways to celebrate burns night this year so we thought we would give you a few suggestions and some inspiration for what you can wear. You do not need to be Scottish or in Scotland to partake in the festivities. Maybe you are poetry fan and love the work of Robert Burns, or it can just be a great excuse to celebrate.

You could take a short break to Scotland the true home of burns night and attend an authentic Burns Night supper. These are normal a fairly formal affair, so show up in style in a classic black suit with our White and Grey Bold Tartan Wool Tie by Knightsbridge and a Grey and Cream Tartan Pocket Square by Knightsbridge.

Use this as an opportunity to bust out your fantastic hosting skills and hold your very own Burns Night supper. Invite the whole family or maybe just a few friends. It would not be a proper burns celebration without reading some of the poet him self's work, there is a free app available on android and apple called the work of Robert Burns  containing a selection of his poems. Why not wear our Black and Green with Red Tartan Skinny Tie and Pocket Square Set with a burgundy shirt and a pair of charcoal grey trousers for a great smart casual look.

Or for a completely informal celebration why not go off to a bar of club, maybe head into London to make it a bit more special for the occasion. Stay stylish wearing a pair of jeans, white shirt, a pair of Navy Blue Clip On Braces by Knightsbridge and our Van Buck Black Watch Tartan Bow Tie.
