Quirky New Year Resolutions

The beginning of  a new year is a great time to make a change and do something different. New Year's resolutions can be mundane and often end up being the same every year. Instead of the usual promising to loose weight, give up smoking or cut down on drinking why not make life more interesting by choosing one of our Top 5 Quirky Resolutions.

1. Post a photo a day for a year.

A year can seem to last forever but in reality it is a very short period of time. It is so easy to forget what your year consisted of, if you take just one photo every day for a year you will have a wonderful photo diary packed with memories. You can take a photo of absolutely anything, it doesn't have to be jam packed with selfies. Take photos of your family, pets, places you visit, or just some beautiful English countryside. You can make it random or memorable its completely up to you.

2. Try a new food every month.

If you are a particularly fussy eater you can end up eating the same things all the time and you'll soon be fed up of it. So why not be brave and add some variety to your diet, you never know you could discover a new favourite food. Get adventurous and try sushi, crocodile, or maybe an exotic fruit e.g. dragon fruit, pomelo or kumquat.

3. Learn a party trick.

A great way to impress your friends, colleagues or a new group of people is a party trick. Make it your mission to master an impressive new skill. Why not memorise every county in the UK, learn to solve a rubix cube in under a minute, draw a perfect circle freehand,

4. Break a world record.

Whether you want it to be official and get your name in the Guinness Book of World Records or just for your own satisfaction try and break a world record in the year ahead. You could  stack 24 cans in a fridge in under 9.76 seconds, drink 500ml of water in less than 2.35 seconds, stack more than 51 coins in a tower using one hand in 30 seconds, or take more than 1449 selfies in an hour.

5. Learn a new craft.

Bring out your creativity and learn a new craft whether it be practical like sewing, or just for fun such as pyrography, the art of burning into wood which you could use to engrave wooden gifts. Its always useful to learn a new skill and be able to make things yourself.

Happy Christmas from Fab Ties

Christmas has finally arrived, its time to spend some quality time with friends and family, stuff your face with turkey and drink lots of mulled wine. A classic Christmas pastime always involves games so we have come up with a bunch for you to enjoy this holiday.

Who Am I?

This game is where one person holds a word to their forehead so they cant see what it says, then everyone else has to describe it without using the word so they can guess what it is. This would be a great game to play with all the family.

Search on the app store for post-it games for a great variety of this game which are quick and simple to play. Or you can create your own version by writing words such as films, animals or film characters an pieces of paper and stacking the face down.

Christmas Word Finder

Write a list of Christmas themed words like mince pie, Christmas cracker or reindeer and then make as many smaller words from each one as possible.

Name the Song

Play just a few seconds of a selection of Christmas songs and ask your family and friends to guess the name and artist of each one.

Night Before Christmas

Give each person the name of something from the poem (e.g. Christmas tree, sleigh, reindeer) then read out the poem. When someone hears their word they should stand up, turn around and sit down again, when they hear Santa Clause everyone swaps places.

Christmas Bingo

Draw up or print some festive bingo boards with Christmassy things like candy canes and stockings replacing. Use sweets or chocolates as counters to place on each square when its called instead of pen so you can re use your bingo boards. Get 5 across diagonally, vertically, or horizontally to win.

What to Wear to Your Christmas Party

Every work Christmas Party is different with some being formal, some more casual. It is often the one day of the year the whole company will make an effort to dress up and go out together so you should try to wear something a bit different to what you usually wear to work, so it looks as if you have dressed for the occasion.

If you always wear a suit then go for something slightly more casual but sill smart. Maybe wear a blazer, shirt and tie with some dark coloured jeans. Although of course it depends where your party is being held. if you are going for a sit down meal at a nice restaurant then you'll want to be suited and booted, looking your best.

If its a more causal affair why not inject a bit of fun into your outfit with a Christmas jumper or one of our party ties if you want to be that little bit more formal.

Outfit Inspiration

Our party ties and bow ties would be a great addition to your Christmas party outfit this year. They can be quirky and dapper yet formal, it all depends what you decide to wear with them. Here are some ideas of how to dress up or dress down one of our party ties or bow ties.

For a formal outfit pair a white shirt and some black trousers with our Van Buck Limited Edition Wavy Blocks Multicoloured Silk Bow Tie and Plain Black Satin Wedding Waistcoat. This would be the perfect outfit for a formal Christmas meal.

If your Christmas do this year is more of  a casual affair why not opt for a festive look consisting of a pair of black skinny jeans, with a white shirt and our Swirl Red Glitter Tie by Van Buck with a fair isle jumper over the top.

If your work attire is normally smart casual then it would be a great idea to show everyone how sharp and dapper you look in a suit. Wear a navy blue suit with a Silver Plated Dinosaur Lapel Pin and our Lightening Print Black Glitter Tie by Van Buck for a striking look.
