Valentines day is celebrated on the 14th February every year. It was originally a Christian feast day honouring one or more early saints named Valentinus. Valentines Day first became associated with romantic love in the 14th century in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer when the tradition of courtly love was popular. It wasn't until the 18th century that lovers gave each other cards and gifts of flowers and confectionery to show their love for each other. In some parts of Europe St.Valentines keys are given to show the unlocking of each others hearts and they are also sometimes given to children to ward off epilepsy.
