2016 Olympics in Rio

This weekend is the start of the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The opening ceremony will be held at the Maracana Stadium and will start at midnight UK time on Friday 5th August.

Andy Murray has been chosen to be the flag bearer for the UK, it will be swimmer Michael Phelps for the U.S.A and pentathlete Yana Marques will have the honour of bearing the flag for the host Brazil.

We have 366 athletes competing at this years games including some of the nations favourites such as our flag bearer Andy Murray, Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis, Tom Daley and Bradley Wiggins. This is the largest number of athletes we have had compete in an Olympics outside of the UK since Barcelona 1992.
